AMA to Host Family-Friendly 2nd Annual National Fun Fly
July 30 – August 1, 2021
MUNCIE, Ind.—Beginning Friday, July 30, the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) will host its National Fun Fly—three days of friends and fellowship—at the International Aeromodeling Center (IAC) in Muncie, Indiana.
Pilot registration is $40 for adults and $20 for Youth members. AMA families are welcome to join the fun! Flight simulators and buddy-box flying will be available on-site during all three days of the event.
The National Fun Fly will also include a swap shop and events just for AMA Foundation donors, including a special luncheon on Saturday. Flying activities will include model aircraft of all types and there will be a drone race.
The annual AMA membership meeting will take place Saturday night, followed by a membership dinner. The meeting will be livestreamed and recorded for those who cannot attend.
Randy Cameron, AMA Executive Vice President (EVP) and event contest director (CD), said he anticipates that the majority of the Executive Council will attend. He said there will be more flightlines operating this year, and that most of the IAC would be available for the event.
“It’s really a bucket list event for sure,” Randy said. “Swap meets are very popular, and they usually provide a very good draw” to an event. “Make new friends, fly your favorite aircraft, and enjoy good food!”
Randy noted that the National Model Aviation Museum would be open during most of the event and offers a great resource for members.
“It’s a great family attraction where they can see how the hobby has evolved over the years,” he said. The museum includes a store where model aviation-related merchandise can be purchased.
